About the Artist: Jennifer LaCroix
Although Jennifer LaCroix was born in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, most of her artistic inspiration comes from her extensive world travels.
Jennifer has always held an interest in music and art since she was very young. She attended Maxwell International Baha'i School because of their focus on the arts, although was not introduced to Silk Painting until 1998. Her teacher, Barbara Trowbridge, has taught Textile Design and Silk Painting for over 35 years throughout North America. It was through Barb that Jenn attended a workshop with Bill Morton, one of Canada's most prestigious silk dyers.
In 2000-2002 Jennifer attended Vancouver Island University to study both Classical and Jazz Music. In 2004 she published a CD of her own compositionsJENN (available from the author). By 2005 she centered her focus on the visual artsnamely Silk Painting.
Jenn presently works out of her studio, LACROIX Silks Studio, in the Cowichan Valley, BC, Canada in the Shibori, Gutta-Resist, and Japanese Rozome (wax-resist) Techniques. She creates Hand-painted Art: Silk Scarves, Hangings and Commissioned Works.
